Child Protection Policy
CHILD PROTECTION POLICY STATEMENT FOR GOVERNING BODY
As the Governing Body recognised by the British Judo Association as being responsible for the administration of Judo in Northern Ireland, we the Northern Ireland Judo Federation are responsible for overseeing the adoption and the implementation of our child protection policy and Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport by our members. To maximise compliance with the said Policy and Codes, we shall:
- Ensure that the Northern Ireland Judo Federation’s Child Protection
Policy is adopted, agreed to, implemented and signed up to by all
members.
- Ensure that the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport
is adopted, agreed to, implemented and signed up to by all members.
- Amend, as necessary, the Constitution to reflect a safe and clearly
defined method of recruitment, selection and management.
- Appoint a National Children’s Officer. He or She shall be a member of
the executive Committee.
- Ensure that effective disciplinary, complaints and appeals procedures
are in place.
- Have procedures in place for dealing with a concern or complaint made
to the Statutory Authorities against a Committee Member of a Sports
Leader. Regulations shall stipulate that a Sports Leader who is the
subject of an allegation, which has been reported to the Statutory
Authorities, shall stand aside while the matter is being examined. He
or She shall be invited to resume their full duties immediately upon
vindication.
- Ensure that all Judo Clubs are fully affiliated and signed up to the
Northern Ireland Judo Federation’s Constitution.
- Be represented by appropriate personnel at all education/training
workshops dealing with Northern Ireland Judo Federation’s Policies
and Codes.
- Where Children are involved in representative teams, designate an
appropriate Senior Officer in the Northern Ireland Judo Federation as
the person responsible for following the Guidelines of the Code.
- Review it’s Child Protection Procedures regularly through open
discussion with it’s members, Sports Council and Statutory Authorities.
- Establish contact with representatives of the Statutory Authorities in
their areas. The building of these relationships will contribute to the
creation of an environment in which education and knowledge of Child
Protection issues and procedures are widely known.
- Examine and take appropriate action in response to any reports of
unusual incidents, high transfer rates/dropouts, received from Clubs.
CHILD PROTECTION POLICY STATEMENT
The Northern Ireland Judo Federation is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for children and young people to practice Judo.
We do this by:
- Recognising that all children have the right to freedom from abuse.
- Ensuring that all our staff and volunteers are carefully selected and
accept responsibility for helping to prevent the abuse of children in
their care and all staff and volunteers who will have substantial access
will be CRB/ AccessNI checked and in compliance with new statutory
legislation all NIJF officers in a regulated position will also be checked.
- Responding swiftly and appropriately to all suspicions or allegations of
abuse and providing parents and children with the opportunity to voice
any concerns they may have.
- Appointing a Children’s Officer who will take specific responsibility for
children and outside agencies.
- Ensuring access to confidential information is restricted to the
Children’s Officer or the appropriate external authorities.
- Reviewing the effectiveness of our Child Protection Policy and activities
each year at the AGM.
