The Northern Ireland Judo Federation is setting a new standard of period care and awareness across its operation and its affiliated clubs.
The Federation is leading by example by directly purchasing FLB Essential Coaches Bags for their clubs, to start them on their journey of being Period Supportive.
By committing to rolling out the Period Supportive movement to clubs affiliated to the NIJF, we’re further cementing our message that “everyone is welcome on the mats”.
This will ensure that at whatever level, women and girls will have access to the products they need and feel welcomed and included in Judo as a sport.
Martha Silcot, CEO and Founder of Fab Little Bags said:
“Our Period Supportive Movement is all about inclusivity and ensuring that women and girls feel welcomed and included in sports to encourage increased participation and retention. We are delighted that the Northern Ireland Judo Federation have joined our movement, it is wonderful to work alongside an organisation that also has a focus on respect for all and wants to welcome everyone to Judo. Our Coach’s Bags mean that if you’re ‘caught short’ or simply need an extra pad or tampon, you can help yourself, easily, discreetly, and feel supported. It also means that disposal transforms from an awkward unpleasant experience to a hygienic confident experience that also keeps our rivers and oceans pollution free”
Mark Donald, Northern Ireland Judo added:
“Our member clubs are focused on making everyone feel welcome and respected. In fact, one of the moral pathways of Judo is centred on respect, and as the Governing Body this is a message we want to amplify throughout our clubs.
Period dignity is not only important, it’s an essential part of making people feel welcome, and through our partnership with FAB little bags, we’re delighted to offer our clubs the opportunity to get involved with such a positive message.
For us, this is a small step that has many worthwhile echoes through the Federation, and we look forward to being able to offer this step in progress and recognition for our female members and other females involved in Judo at any level.”
Over the next week, clubs will receive an email notifying them as to how they can apply for their initial starter bags which will be funded by the Northern Ireland Judo Federation.
We look forward to a long working relationship with Fab Little Bags and the female members of our clubs feeling supported on their Judo journey.
